Crestfallen

“This result, performance is Jose’s biggest failure. Preparation and reactive adaption was flawed. Nothing seemed balanced, incisive. We were exposed. We pressed a little. We tried to play. But there was no meat on the bones.

Are the players simply not good enough or is it Jose? Is reality the reliance on 2/3 key players? Is this inherited squad too broken to get fixed quickly? Should we have set up to just counter?

Ultimately this is a failure everyone has to accept and own. Especially the gaffer. It was brutal. It was self inflicted. That edge Mourinho is meant to bring was blunt not sharp.

We do not have the capacity over the season to be the team that doesn’t make the mistakes. We are set up to punish opponents mistakes but we are making too many ourselves.

Hate to say this out-loud but the squad isn’t good enough for the tactics. Arguably the tactics do more to protect the weak links. But not in this game. In this game it all fell apart. Sometimes we fall apart.

‘Come on, play football, f**king hell’ JM shouts from the touchline.

So why do we struggle to?

We don’t have elite players in the positions imperative to the system Jose sets up. Yet we persevere. Stubbornness is killing us. Maybe this is going to take longer than we thought. Our preconceptions and expectations might just be distorted.

Or maybe it’s down to mentality. As a football club, a fanbase, a team.

My headspace ain’t great right now”
