£10M Bassong bid rejected
Sunday, August 2, 2009 at 12:19PM So basically, Newcastle have rejected a £10M Spurs bid for the lynchpin of their relegated defence. I don't know what's funnier. Them possibly wanting more or us placing such a high estimation on the player. Newcastle aren't even paying the bloke that much in the way of wages (edit: which is probably why they are in no hurry to get rid).
£6M tops. Even that's being generous.
EDIT: Bit of an update. 'arry has denied we've made a bid. Ooh, we all feel stupid now, don't we? Or is this another transfer dance of confusion? Probably means we're about to offer £15M.

Agreed. Although he is probably not a priority for them to sell as his wages are not that great.
Arbeloa signed for Real Madrid for £3.5M. I think that places it into perspective. Are Newcastle holding out for a cheeky £20M City bid or what?
Good point about the low wages. I missed the obvious there.
Still, £10M for a Championship side should see them biting our hands off.

They are probably hoping for a bidding war to start now to push the price up. Would love Distin as well though. Is he really only 4million?! Snap their hand off I say at that price!!
I hope to God we dont go and improve our offer, this is ridiculously high. Once two from Daws, King & Woody are fit this bloke wont play anyway.
We do need cover at CB, though. I hope we still have money avaliable for an experienced CM and Huntelaar, or am I just being greedy??!!
He's class, Far better than Distin, and if we bought him he would be a great replacement for when King finally has to hang up his boots. The Toon are asking a high price cos he's their best player and as he only came from Metz reserves he's on next to no money at Newcastle <10K per week and on a 5 year deal. I'm a Spurs fan in Newcastle so have seen him play plenty of times and have loads of mates who are Toon fans and they would be gutted if he left them. He's got youth on his side as well so is likely to increase in value.

Ark at the pikey, if we had no money to buy players I would probably say that too. Sell a caravan and see what your mates can muster up you might be able to sign a league 1 player.
HarrysAhammer - I don't think so, its only you bitter Hammers who don't like us, why is that, your derby is v Millwall two scum teams who spend a lot of time in the lower leagues, just right for each other. As a northern Yid I can tell you plenty of City, Manure and the scouse teams all quite like us.

well i dont have any problem with spurs though i will say bassong is a top quality cb i have seen him(bassong) and wodgate and out of the 2 i prefer bassong he will be 1 of the top cbs in the world someday as good and could even be as good as rio
the way he played last season was brilliant and especially considering it was his first season in england and he was at the madhouse of football bassong has everything it takes to be a top top player and some 1 said hes on 10 k a week hes actually on 5

spooky i wouldnt have thought so martins completed his move to wolfesburg on the same day he died and up until then i didnt think we would be buying or selling players until the club was sold but maybe with the sale looking unlikely things have changed but i doubt it has something to do with wor bobby dying but you could be right
Yeah, I guess business is business at the end of the day.
We'll see what happens next. Up to Spurs now really, unless Bassong hands in a transfer request and forces the issue.
